Whoever answers the phone may be able to tell you when the booker might be available, but expect them not to be, expect to have to make several attempts. "My name is Derek Eynon, I am a musician" is my standard opening. I follow with "I Play a, b, c, d (venues) and I would like to come to play for you". Choose your target venue, somewhere where they have similar acts to yourself. If you want to be paid a fee (rather than a door take) you will be expected to play predominantly covers.
